Vintage Palitoy Carrie & Christopher Dolls

These cute little Carrie & Christopher dolls were made by Palitoy in the 1970s & 80s.  They are just 6" tall with movable arms, legs & head,  sleeping blue eyes & rooted blonde hair.

In the 1970s the dolls the only way you could tell the boy & girl apart was that their hairstyles were slightly different, the girl having a centre part & the boy having a side part.  These two are both probably girls but it is difficult to tell.  Their lips have faded to a pale colour over the years.

The 1970s dolls are marked only with Hong Kong on their backs. 

In the 1980s the dolls were made anatomically correct making it easy to tell which was which.

These dolls had a variety of clothes & accessories to purchase but I only have the slide & seesaw.

Vintage Dol-Toi Dolls House Dolls

Dol-Toi made dolls house furniture & accessories from 1944 - 1975.  These dolls are 1/16th scale and were made in the 1960s & 70s.  They are made of wire covered with skin coloured thread, have plastic heads and clothes made of felt or fabric.  The earliest dolls were called Tomac Dolls and had button heads covered with cloth and date back to the 1940s.  Plaster heads were then used in the very early 1960s and thereafter plastic heads.  The easiest to find are the white dolls but they also made, Asian, Black & Oriental families and also dolls dressed in ethnic costumes.  The later dolls were renamed Figertoi Dolls.

Antique All Bisque Dolls made in Japan

This is my collection of all bisque dolls which were made in Japan during the 1920s.  They range in height from just 1.5" tall to 4" tall and most of mine have jointed arms.  I bought them in a job lot at auction and their previous owner has redressed some of them.

These are the biggest dolls, the one in the centre still has her original paper jacket although it is a bit tatty.

The doll on the right actually has a painted on swimsuit under her knitted dress. 

Some people call these dolls Frozen Charlotte's but technically a Frozen Charlotte doll is a doll made in one solid piece of bisque and so they do not have jointed arms.

These are Frozen Charlotte dolls.

The name Frozen Charlotte comes from a North American folk ballad called Fair Charlotte which is the story of a girl who was going to a New Years ball.  It was snowing but she refused to wear a coat as she did not want to cover up her pretty dress.  Her fiance found her on the sleigh at the end of the journey frozen to death.

Antique G & J Lines No. 35 Dolls House Plus Furniture

This is one of my newest purchases and was bought from a private collection of Lines & Tri-ang toys which was being sold off at auction.  It is a G & J Lines number 35 dolls house and dates to around 1925 (which I class as antique).  This house is 1/16th scale and is in lovely condition with all the original glass windows but the inside has been re-papered. 

 All the furniture and dolls are German and date to around 1900 and were also bought at the same auction as the dolls house.  I have turned this house into a girls orphanage, the older girls take it in turns to look after the babies.

This is upstairs on the left, the crib is made of metal.

These beds are Schneegas.

 This is a hand painted picture by Andrew Nicholls in the 1980s or 90s.

These tiny girl dolls with bows are only 1.5" tall, they are having a tea party.

The picture above the fireplace was made by a friend.  This doll is comforting the baby who is wide awake.

This is the right hand side of the bedroom, the mirror & wash jug & bowl are modern dolls house pieces.

These little beds are by Gottschalk.

The dolls house is actually a tiny vintage jewellery box.

This is downstairs left, again all the furniture is German and dates to around the 1900s. 

These girls are having a break before it is their turn to look after the babies, the tea set is modern.

1933 - 1938 Chad Valley 'Carina' Cloth Doll

This is my Chad Valley 'Carina' dolls.  She is all original and in lovely condition and even still has her original but tatty box.  She can be dated to between 1933 & 1938 due to her having the painted eyes, calico legs & the red embroidered Hygenic Toys labels attached to the bottoms of both her feet.

She has a beautiful painted face.

Her body is made of calico and she is wearing her original flowery knickers.

She is also wearing this lovely petticoat.

Her hair is in the style of the decade.

Each foot has a red Chad Valley label.

Chad Valley, UK made cloth dolls between 1920 to 1954. In the 1920s they made cloth dolls with pressed cloth faces, glass eyes and velveteen bodies. In the 1930s they began to paint the eyes on to the faces and using cheaper calico bodies. The Hygenic Toys label was used until 1938 when the Royal Warrant label came into use, then lastly in 1952 the Queen Mother label was used. In 1938 they made Princess Elizabeth & Princess Margaret dolls which are very sought after now.

Vintage Toy Works D01 Dolls House & Mattel The Littles

I will start my blog with a post about my very first dolls house which I got for my 5th birthday in 1973.  It is a very cute little 1/24th scale Tudor style Toy Works D01 and still has its original windows but the front door is a replacement. I added the internal partitions as it was originally just two rooms and decorated it as the walls were just plain white.

Toy Works houses were made in the UK during the 1970s & early 80s.  They were made from printed hardboard with plastic windows & doors.  There were many different styles of houses made and some also had printed interiors (I have a few of these houses and will show them later).

When I was a child I had cheap plastic dolls house furniture in it but most of that got broken or lost. Now it is furnished with Mattel The Littles pieces from 1981.

This is the packaging that my Littles family came in, on the back it shows the furniture available.

  

 The Littles were made in 1981 by Mattel.  The furniture is 1/24th scale and made of metal & plastic and is quite sturdy.  The Littles family includes Mr & Mrs Littles and Baby Littles (who I have), Belinda Litttles, Daphne Littles, Hedy Littles, Flossie Littles and later Kenny & Becky Littles.
